Tiny strands of plastic or glass about the length and width of a human hair, bound together into cables and transmit data and coded signals in pulses of light, these cables are called fiber optic cables that can give you the fastest fiber internet service that are currently available in the world today. There are still other forms of internet connection services in the likes of cable internet service and DSL that can transmit electrical information through the use of copper lines which can be pretty fast as well but not as fast as how fiber-optic works.

Both of the copper lines and fiber optic use binary signals in transmitting data. Binary is a number system where the combination of two numbers in a sequence represents more complex symbols or instructions, with this method of data transmission, it makes the fiber internet the best option for reliability and faster internet speed.

Your overall internet speed may vary on how much data the infrastructure can handle. Fiber optic internet lines transmit data using modulated light instead of electricity, which gives them a much higher capacity for bandwidth since they are not bound by the physical limitations of electricity that are conducted through metal. Fiber internet connections can work up to a speed of 1 gigabit per second obviously 100 times faster than old copper wire connections. Traditional copper wires used by cable internet and DSL were originally made to transmit voice only so they are very limited in the amount of data that they can transmit from time to time.

There are some of the best internet service providers in the Philippines that are offering fiber internet services out in the market. With this, fiber internet has several advantages over cable and DSL.

  • Fiber internet is better for carrying data or information from long distances. All electronic signals can be affected negatively by long distance travel even if it’s using light and electricity. The farther a signal needs to travel, the more it degrades and the weaker it will be when it reaches the receiver of the information. On maintaining signal strength, copper cable links are limited to a distance of 300 feet or less but fiber optic cables can run up to almost 25 miles before they completely lose signal strength, which makes them a better choice overall.
  • Although copper is a great medium for conducting electricity, it is not a closed system which means that it can highly be interfered by other electromagnetic signals or radio signals. High level of interference will reduce signal strength and may definitively risk cutting the signal entirely. Plastic fiber optic lines and glass ones, on the other hand are more insulated against outside interference making their signal much more stronger and secure, having lesser risk of losing the signal completely.
  • Fiber optic lines, despite being extremely small size , are much harder and more resistant than the usual copper lines. Fiber optics can take between 100 to 200 pounds of pressure while copper can only withstand around 25 pounds of pressure. Copper, also, is a soft metal that conducts heat which means that older systems are at a high risk of damage from the environment (including the possibility of fire hazard) and will break down over time.
